A suspicious package left by an incoherent female at a Milstead Road medical office caused the evacuation of surrounding medical offices Monday.

The call was dispatched to the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office around noon about a coffee can that was left by an incoherent female on the ledge of the receptionist area at 1567 Milstead Road, Suite A, Associated Foot and Ankle Specialist.

Responding deputies moved the package to the parking lot and decided to have Rockdale County Fire and Rescue identify the package, according to RCFR spokesperson Sharon Webb.

A Rockdale engine, squad vehicle, and Hazardous Materials teams with mutual aid assistance from Walton County’s Haz-Mat team were dispatched to the scene. Rockdale County Fire-Rescue. Walton County Haz-Mat Technicians suited up and moved in to evaluate the package.

Air samples were taken around the package with the air monitoring equipment and all results were found within normal limits. Haz-Mat technicians then removed the lid and found the container to be full of prescription vials.

According to Rockdale County Sheriff's Investigator Michael Camp, there was no ill intent and the woman was grateful that the medication was returned to her as she thought they had been stolen.

The incident caused the doctor’s office as well as the adjoining office to be evacuated and Milstead Road was closed from Sigman Road to Norton Road for approximately three hours.

There were no injuries reported.
