The Social Circle Board of Education has named Todd McGhee as its new superintendent, according to the school's website and chairman Tim Lemonds.

McGhee is the principal at Elbert County Comprehensive High School, and has worked for Social Circle previously as a middle school principal, Lemonds said.

"His drive and passion for education," Lemonds said in an email when asked why McGhee was chosen. "He also has worked for the system as a middle school principal, so he knows some of the staff and the expectations of the community.

McGhee will start July 1, and will replace retiring Superintendent Bettye Ray.
