The Eastside Lady Eagles won their tenth game of the season topping the Lady Bulldogs of Rockdale at Reid Memorial Stadium in Conyers Friday night.
Amber Lafond put the Lady Eagles up 1-0 when she swiped a loose ball Rockdale defenders were having trouble controlling near their own net and sent it past the Lady Bulldogs keeper, Megan Calik. Later, after her original shot was blocked by Calik, sending both players to the turf, Sarah Gaddis got up quicker than the Rockdale keeper and put the ball into an empty net. It was the first of three goals Eastside would net in just over one minute on the clock. Senior Alexis Crawford her first varsity goal off a long cross from the left from Lafond 30 seconds later. Lafond found Gaddis for the next goal, a well struck effort that Calik was unable to handle with 33:25 left. That 4-0 lead would not change until the second half.
The Lady Bulldogs best chance of the night came off a long free kick from Calik, who made her way out of goal to play on the field in the second half, with 34 minutes left. It looked as if Rockdale would break the shutout on the play but their shot careened off the top crossbar and back into play. The follow up struck off the right goal post and back into play.
A third effort from close range was rejected by Eastside keeper Carly Farrow but remained in play. The fourth, and final, Rockdale shot of the sequence sailed over the top of net.
Within a minute and a half, Lafond made it 5-0 on a long shot from just outside the eighteen yard box. With 29:05 left to play, Lafond notched her third assist of the night, this time sending the ball to Tara Harrison who sent a left footed strike into the back of the net.
The Lady Eagles (10-6) have now won 8 of their last nine games after a 2-5 start. Eastside next plays Morgan County (8-3) at Cousins Middle School Monday at 5:30 pm. On Tuesday, they are scheduled to play their last Region game of the regular season at Jackson at 7:30 pm.
In the nightcap, the Eastside boys (9-5-2) defeated the Rockdale boys (4-13) 1-0 on a goal by Trent Taylor. Details were unavailable at press time.
