Applications are now available for the 2011 Snapping Shoals EMC J.E. Robinson Memorial Scholarships, the All-Around Student Scholarships, the Washington Youth Tour, and the Walter Harrison Scholarship.

The Snapping Shoals EMC J.E. Robinson Memorial Scholarships, worth $2,000 each, are awarded to 14 high school seniors. Academic ability and financial need are the primary considerations for these scholarships.

The All-Around Student Scholarships, also worth $2000, go to six students who go above and beyond in their extracurricular activities while still maintaining high academic standards.

High school seniors living in homes served by Snapping Shoals EMC, as well as seniors at designated area high schools, may apply for the J.E.Robinson Memorial Scholarships and All-Around Student Scholarships. The deadline to apply for both is Feb. 11, 2011.

In addition to the J.E. Robinson Memorial Scholarships and the All-Around Student Scholarships, Snapping Shoals EMC will also be awarding an all-expenses-paid trip, the Washington Youth Tour, to our nation’s capital plus a $500 scholarship to three area high school students. The three winners from SSEMC will join more than 100 other teens from across Georgia and about 1,400 other students from across the country in visiting Washington, D.C. Participants will tour historic sites, meet state and national leaders, experience government in action and take part in leadership-building activities. To be eligible for the Washington Youth Tour, students must be a high school sophomore or junior this school year; be at least 16 years old by June 9, 2011; be available to attend the entire Youth Tour (June 9-16, 2011); and have a parent or legal guardian’s permission to participate.

Scholastic record, school activities, community service and other achievements will be considered when choosing the three Washington Youth Tour winners. The deadline to apply is Feb. 11, 2011.

The Walter Harrison Scholarship is a statewide competition coordinated by Georgia EMC and is open to students of any age. To apply through Snapping Shoals, you must either live in the household of or be a Snapping Shoals EMC member or employee. Walter Harrison Scholarships are each worth $1,000. Full instructions and eligibility requirements for all Snapping Shoals EMC scholarships are included with application forms. The deadline to apply is Jan. 27, 2011.
