Rockdale and Conyers will be mourning the loss of the Doraville officer killed in a car crash Monday morning.
The officer, Robert Shane Wilson, was the father of a young child and recently remarried husband who lived in Newton County and had family roots in Rockdale.
Wilson's funeral will take place at 2 p.m. at First Baptist of Conyers with a procession down Ga. Highway 138 to the Green Meadows cemetary.
Wilson was responding to a call early Monday morning and driving a silver Ford Edge in the westbound lane of I-20 when a 2012 Jeep Cherokee driving the wrong way struck him.
According to reports, the driver of the Jeep Cherokee, Gene Jones, was seen by a witness to have made a U-turn on the highway. The witness said he observed a pair of headlights going the wrong way, and then heard the impact and saw the debris from the vehicles.
Wilson was found deceased at the scene of the accident and Jones was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for his injuries, where he was given a blood test.
Jones was charged with DUI less safe, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road and vehicular homicide first degree.
