The Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce celebrated the one-year anniversary of the "Shop the Rock" buy local campaign at the Rockdale Rotary Club at Rockdale Medical Center Wednesday morning.
Campaign Chair Diane Adoma and past Chamber President Lorraine Harrison reviewed the successes of Shop the Rock this past year and outlined plans to continue the program in the coming year.
Shop the Rock Committee Chair Diane Adoma said previously, "You have the power to keep Rockdale alive and thriving."
"Every dollar spent with a locally owned Rockdale County business has a return of investment of 68 cents back into our tax base. When we spend with businesses located here, but not owned here 43 cents is returned to the community. When we shop outside the county or online none of the revenue feeds back," Harrison said previously.
Many of Rockdale's school and county and city capital projects, such as building construction, road paving, and school renovations, are paid with funds collected from sales taxes.
Rockdale Medical Center CEO Deborah Armstrong and Evans Tool & Die CEO Dee Barnes also spoke about the effect of "Shop the Rock" in their respective businesses and in the community.
