The Rockdale all-stars shined the brightest in the annual Newton County vs. Rockdale County game at Rockdale High's gym Thursday.

The event started with the girls' 3-point contest, won by Rockdale's Breanna Richardson.

The boys then stepped behind the arc, with another Rockdale senior coming out on top. This time it was C.J. Wilson, who met Richardson in the overall finals. Wilson was named the 3-point champion, and then competed in the slam dunk contest.

Wilson and Salem's Dedrick Turner made it to the finals of the dunk contest, and the explosive Bulldogs' guard came away the winner, delighting the crowd gathered in the first-year gymnasium.

"We had a good time," Newton County coach Rick Rasmussen said. "The crowd was really good on both sides of the gym."

After the excitement of the dunk contest, the girls' teams from each county stepped on to the court for the first game of the evening. Newton County came out on top, winning 29-26.

The boys' game capped the evening in a high-scoring affair.

Wilson led the way for Rockdale County, which trailed 53-51 after the first 18-minute half, in the win.

"What hurt us was C.J. Wilson in transition," Rasmussen said. "He's so super quick."

Rockdale County won 101-95 despite big games by Newton's Kishon Rogers and Alcovy's Michael Tucker.

"It was a lot of scoring, it was really fun," Rasmussen said.
