Schools closed Tuesday for Rockdale students, teachers
Rockdale government offices delayed open at 11 a.m.

IN BRIEF: School is closed for Rockdale County Public Schools students, teachers and non-year-long employees due to the extreme cold predicted for tonight and tomorrow morning. Administrators, 11-month employees and year long employees should report at 10 a.m. Custodians and janitorial staff will be directed by their supervisor on when to report.

Tuesday was scheduled to be the first day back for students after the winter break. The make-up day has yet be determined, said a Rockdale County Public Schools spokesperson.

Newton County, Social Circle, Henry and Walton county public schools are closed Tuesday as well for students and teachers.

Peachtree Academy said it will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 7 due to the weather. Its early learning center will be open and a camp will be offered 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Young American Christian School will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 7 due to weather, according to school officials.

According to its Web site, Eastminster School instructed families to "follow the directive for the Rockdale County School System," to determine inclement weather closings.

Basketball games scheduled Monday for Rockdale County High School, Heritage High, and Salem High have been rescheduled.

Rockdale County government offices will delay opening until 11 a.m. and the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners work session will be delayed until 11:30 a.m. Tuesday (instead of 10 a.m.).
