School system enrollment grows
RCPS

CONYERS - After recent years of flat enrollment during the recession, Rockdale County Public Schools' student body is growing again.

RCPS Finance Director Lee Davis reported to the school board Thursday night that student enrollment was up about 280 students more than last year at this time at the Day 9 count, or about 2 percent more.

Community Relations Director Cindy Ball, who oversees registration, echoed that finding.

"Student registration has felt that in a large way," said Ball. This year, the student registration office saw volume begin to increase just after July 4 and remain heavy until this week.

"Usually it's a sharp dropoff after Day 4 of school, but they've continued to see a heavy volume" until today, she said.

Davis also reported there might be a shift of an elementary teacher position from one school to another to even out the student-teacher ratio.
