School bus rear ended by SUV

An SUV rear-ended a school bus on Ga. Highway 212 this morning as it was on its way to dropping off students to Barksdale Elementary for the first day of school. There were reportedly no injuries and no children on the bus were hurt.

The accident occured a little after 7 a.m. near the intersection of Oglesby Bridge Road and Ga. Highway 212. There was little or no damage to the bus, but the SUV, a dark red Mitsubishi Montero Sport, sustain damage to its front end and the air bags were deployed.

The bus, which had a few students on it, pulled away from the scene around 7:40 a.m.

Rockdale County Sheriff's Office Lt. Mike Sellers said the first day of school typically goes pretty quietly and that extra patrols are out to ensure an orderly day.

Georgia State Patrol is handling the accident investigation.
