Rubber Ducky Race returns

It's duck season again, but not the hunting kind. The seventh annual Rubbery Ducky Race returns to Elks Aidmore Children's Center on June 23, in the Rockdale County Senior Services largest annual fundraiser.

About 1300 little yellow rubber ducks with numbers will be launched into the waters of Honey Creek. The sponsors of the first ducks to cross the finish line will win special prizes, such as a Smokey Mountain vacation package valued at $1,350, seven-day stay at a Marriott Vacation Club resort, tickets to Dollywood, a digital camera, 24-inch flat screen HDTV, gas cards, restaurant gift cards, and much more.

Ducks are still available for sale and can be purchased until June 22 for $10 each or three for $25. To purchase ducks, go to the Olivia Haydel Senior Center, 1240 Dogwood Drive Conyers, or call Melissa Pugh at 770-278-7230

Proceeds go to fund programs such as Meals on Wheels, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, transportation vouchers, and health and wellness programs.

Fund raising events such as the Rubber Ducky race are critical in a tough economy, said Rockdale Senior Services Manager Susan Morgan, when demand for services is high and funds are not as available.

"We could not do this project without the tremendous support of the community. They know how it is to try and fund all the senior programs. We appreciate it very much," said Morgan.
