Rockdale made quick work of both its opponents Tuesday, in the opening round of the AAAAAA playoffs.
Rockdale's girls' and boys' teams, both Region 2-AAAAAA champions, hosted Douglas County and both won 3-0.
The Lady Bulldogs earned their second trip to the Sweet 16 (the first was in 2011), while the boys are venturing into the round for the first time ever.
Patrick Sanders started things off for the Bulldogs in No. 1 singles, winning 6-2, 6-2.
"Patrick played just a fantastic match," Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing said. "Patrick went out there hung tough, and won the big points."
The Bulldogs top two doubles teams did the rest as Bruce Mitchell and Collin Shamley won 6-3, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles and Abenet Addisu and Chris DeSilva were victorious, 6-4, 6-0.
"The double teams played really well," Sansing said. "They're really coming together as teams. When they let the games come to them, that's when they were successful."
While doubles play was a key for the boys', Rockdale's girls' tennis got a lift from its singles players.
Summer Walker starting things off with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in No. 1 singles, followed by No. 2 singles Cierra Chesser winning 6-0, 6-0.
The No. 1 doubles team of Abby Bradford and Destiny Commodore clinched it with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Both Rockdale teams will host Sweet 16 matches, but Sansing said he doesn't know who or when yet.
"We don't want to be overconfident but it was good for us to go out there and beat a state playoff team," Sansing said. "We don't take anything for granted, and we definetly don't take a trip to the second round of the playoffs for granted."
