Rockdale takes first in track meet

The Rockdale boys' track team picked up its first invitational win this season, while the girls' team finished second in the Running with the Devils Invitational Saturday.

The boys' team scored 124 points, besting the second place team Newton by 23.5 points, and third place Ola, which had 91.50.

The Lady Bulldogs scored 85 points, ahead of third place Newton (82) and girls' winners Loganville, which had 136.
Rockdale had 11 top three finishes in the boys' division, including two first place winners.

Lawrence Crawford won the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.77 and Chaz Mapp won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.63. Crawford finished second in the 200 with a time of 22.63.

Crawford was also part of the second place 4x100 relay team, along with Mario Smith, Malik Dawkins and Issah McClinton, which finished in 43.77 just 11 hundreths of a second better than the third place team of Eastside.

Mapp was also part of the second place 4x800 relay team of Alonzo Allen, Malik Dawkins and Zach Hess in a time of 8:47.20. The Bulldogs' 4x400 relay team of Allen, Dawkins, TJ Warren and Hess also came in second in 3:30.39.

Three individual Rockdale finishers placed second, including Jhibri Greer, who bested Eastside's Darvelle Smith by two hundredths of a second in a time of 15:82.

Newton finished the 1,600 in 4:46.94 and Dennis Logan threw the discus 137-00. Kejine Thomas was third in the discus with a throw of 112-05. Greer also finished third in the 300 hurdles in 42.10.

For the Rockdale girls', Antwonete Thomas won two long distance races, placing first in the 1,600 in 5:35.23 and first in the 800 in a time of 2:29.54. Thomas was also part of the second place 4x400 relay team of Chasin Gladdis, Mahalia Paul and Rachel Hays with a time of 4:12.78.

Oneisha Clennon was Rockdale's other first place finisher, throwing the discus 101-07.

The Lady Bulldogs had one other second place finisher, in Chasin Gladdis with a time of 12:82.7 in the 100 dash - seven hundredths of a second better than third place Corin Stokes of Eastside, while they had four third place finishes.

The 4x800 relay team of Chloe Brown, Kyandi Lattimer, Keyona Thompson and Elizabeth Lowes were third in a time of 11:07.75. Hays finished third in the 400 dash in 1:03.09 and 300 hurdles in 48.96 and Gladdis third in the 200 dash in 25.72.
