Rockdale softball tops Lakeside

Rockdale softball had a burst of scoring in the second inning, which led to a 9-3 victory over the Lakeside Lady Vikings after seven innings.

The Lady Vikings' lead-off hitter, senior Brittney Sheffield, was struck out. Senior Carmen Frinson, takes first plate after she pops a fly ball over second plate. She would also steal second and third, before her teammate, Megan Lohry was caught out. Madison Kesel hit a ball deep into the backfield to allow time for Carmen Frison to take home plate before the end of the inning by strike out.

Lakeside leads the Lady Bulldogs by one in the bottom of the first inning. The Rockdale Lady Bulldogs were unable to score after, Nadia Crawfort, Asia Buckins and Micayla Arnold were tagged out. The Bulldogs finished the inning without scoring.

At the top of the second inning Sarah Parker and Sarah Garner both scored runs before the Bulldogs retired the final three batters.

In the bottom of the second, the Rockdale Bulldogs were quick to fill second and third base, before they scored after a quality hit to center-field by Mikayah Everrett. After a deep hit left field by Sydney Turner, the Lady Bulldogs scored two runs. The score was Lakeside 3 - Rockdale Bulldogs 2. Bases are loaded after a Jasmine Simmons hit.

A chain reaction of scoring was created after a deep hit to right field which results in two runs. A hit to deep center allowed a run home, then a hit to left base a and a decisive throw to first allows the run home for the Lady Bulldogs. Followed a by a run home by Buckins. After a hit by Everett, second and third are tagged out ending the second inning. Rockdale led 7-3.

The rest of the game would be shutout in favor of the Lady Bulldogs. Pitcher Sydney Driver led the way for the Rockdale Bulldogs' defense, and right-fielder Angel Couch catching a deep hit to end the top of the third inning.

Rockdale's turn at bat, the score hasn't changed since the second inning. Sydney Driver was first at bat for the Bulldogs. She was caught out by Carmen Frison after a deep hit to left field. Turner hits deep center to take first, before she steals second. Angel Couch walks to first after being hit by the ball, before Turner runs home on a deep hit to center field. Afterward, a deep hit to center is caught, ending the third inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, Rockdale Bulldog's defense was on point, striking out Lakeside without allowing them to touch first plate.

Junior Clave Hunter led the Lakeside defense at pitcher. The Lady Bulldogs had a couple of hits by Crawfort and Turner, allowing Brianna Smith to run home.
The fifth, sixth, and seventh innings ended with both teamsbeing held scoreless.

"Our hitting was on," Nastasha Johnson, Lady Bulldogs' head coach. "I can't leave my pitching out, because that was pretty much on point as well."
