Rockdale County Senior Services announced today it is the proud recipient of a $900 grant from Meals on Wheels America for its recent participation in Subaru of America's seventh annual "Share the Love" event. The event, which ran November 20, 2014 through January 2, 2015, donated $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer's choice of participating charities including Meals on Wheels America.
"The grant, along with the funds raised during the project, will enable us to serve 450 additional meals to local seniors in need," Rockdale Senior Services Division Manager Susan Morgan said. "Being part of the Share the Love holiday project meant so much to us as a Center because we were able to assist our community by collecting items for the food bank and raising funds for our Meals on Wheels program."
Senior Services completed the project for the first time during the 2014 holiday season to raise funds and awareness of senior isolation and hunger in Conyers-Rockdale. More than 65 senior volunteers participated in the month-long project, which collected $816.45 for the Center's Meals on Wheels program and 1,654 items for Rockdale Emergency Relief. Local partners included Stivers Subaru, Food Depot, Rockdale Fire-Rescue, the Rockdale Senior Site Council, Rockdale Emergency Relief and the County's Maintenance Division.
"We greatly appreciate Subaru's ongoing commitment to Meals on Wheels through its annual ‘Share the Love' event," Meals on Wheels America President and CEO Ellie Hollander said. "Subaru of America and its local retailers across the country have truly become an extension of the Meals on Wheels family.
"Even long after this event concludes, Subaru helps us to deliver that warm meal, friendly smile and vital safety check that are so vital to millions of America's seniors."
The 2014 "Share the Love" funds will continue to benefit local Meals on Wheels America member organizations throughout the year through additional grant opportunities, annual conference scholarships and by sponsoring the organization's March for Meals annual awareness campaign.
"Subaru, our retailers, and our owners feel good about giving to organizations like Meals on Wheels, and that's why we do the Subaru "Share the Love" event," Subaru of America National Advertising Manager Brian Cavallucci said. "Subaru is honored to have donated more than $8.4 million to Meals on Wheels over the past seven years, making a positive impact in local communities and the lives of our elderly loved ones."
