Election season for Republican candidates in Rockdale will kick off Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Rockdale Republican Party's first Constitution Day Celebration.

The event will be held at Pine Log Park, on Ga. Highway 138, from 10 a.m. to noon, featuring speakers on topics such as the Bill of Rights and the Constitution as well as candidates running for election in 2012.

Among the candidates officially announcing will be former county Commissioner Jason Hill, who will be running for Commission Chairman, Tom Harrison, who will be running for the Post I Commission seat, and incumbent Sheriff Jeff Wigington, who will be announcing his campaign for reelection.

By picking Constitution Day, Rockdale Republican Party Chairman Don Williamson said, "We’re commemorating the process on which we started the journey of becoming a nation of laws."

"We’ll take advantage of the time and launch our 2012 candidates members that are announcing."

Speakers include Ga. Attorney General Sam Olens, who will speak on the Bill of Rights, Rockdale Tax Commissioner Dan Ray, and Tommy Clack, head of Veteran's Services for the seven-county region including Rockdale.

The party will also be rechartering the Young Republican's Club, headed by C.J. Lester.

Honor Guard services will be provided by Boy Scout Troop 410, the national anthem will be sung by Angie Tracey, and the Pledge of Allegiance will be lead by Tommy Clack. Light refreshments will be served.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 770-761-8535.
