Rockdale deputy fired, arrested for allegedly assaulting inmate

A Rockdale County Sheriff's Office deputy was arrested after allegedly assaulting an inmate in custody at the Rockdale County jail, according to a released statement from the RCSO.

Gregory Jackson, an RCSO deputy that worked at the jail, was terminated from his position and later arrested and charged with simple battery.

The alleged incident occured on Jan. 30. Jackson was placed on administrative leave and an internal affairs investigation and a criminal investigation were conducted.

On Feb. 12, Jackson's employment was terminated. A warrant was issued for Jackson for simple battery. He later turned himself in  and posted a $1,000 bond.

The case has been forwarded to the Rockdale County District Attorney.
