A Rockdale County Sheriff's Office employee and his wife were arrested on Friday after fighting with each other at their Covington home.

RCSO Cpl. Jerome Woods, 41, and Latoya Woods,38, were both arrested after a domestic dispute on Aug. 31, according to Newton County Sheriff's Office Deputy Cortney Morrison. NCSO deputies responded to a home at 120 Hazlehurst Drive and found out that the two got into a verbal altercation because Woods' wife thought he was having an affair. Morrison said Woods and his wife both threatened each other with a hammer.

"The verbal altercation turned physical and the deputies had enough probable cause to arrest both of them," Morrison said.

Both parties were charged with battery under the Family Violence Act. She said both parties had visible injuries.

Jerome Woods is currently on administrative leave with pay pending an internal investigation, according to a RCSO spokesperson. He was was hired by the RCSO in November 2003 and mandated as an officer in 2005.

If convicted of a domestic violence misdemeanor or felony in Georgia, a defendant loses the ability to buy and bear firearms.
