Rockdale County residents interested local public service by serving on boards or those already serving on volunteer boards are invited to attend a meet and greet session with the county's Commissioners on Thursday, Sept. 16, 6:30 p.m. at the Nancy Guinn Memorial Library.

At the Tuesday Board of Commissioners meeting, all three commissioners, Chairman Richard Oden, Post I Commissioner Oz Nesbitt, and Post II Commissioner JaNice Van Ness, urged residents interested in serving on volunteer boards, such as the library board, animal control board, planning and zoning board, to come to the event, which is designed to allow the commissioners to meet volunteers before appointing them to a board.

At today's BOC meeting, there were vacancies in the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Conyers-Rockdale Planning Commission. The board deferred filling those vacancies until the next meeting, Sept. 28.

Commissioners draw on a list of volunteers who apply to serve with the county. For more information, call Jennifer Rutledge at 770-278-7001.
