Majesti Bass had nine kills to pace the Rockdale Bulldogs in their 2-0 victory over Union Grove at General Ray Davis Middle school Thursday evening.
The Bulldogs each set by a score of 25-20 and 25-9, respectively.
Adrian Williams, Addie Bradford and Jaida Allen also contributed to the Bulldogs kill total, recording five, six and eight respectively. Natheree Lackey wasn't to be outdone, as she poured in 16 assists for Rockdale County.
The Bulldogs started off strong, jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead to leave the Wolverines scrambling around the net. Keeping their poise, the Wolverines charged back with a 3-0 run of their own to even it up and swing the momentum back in their favor.
After a few stellar possessions, the Bulldogs went on another offensive tear,
with eight unanswered points, bringing the score to 11-3. Not to be outplayed, the Wolverines closed the gap to within two, making it 11-9.
After placing two more precisely hit balls into play, the Bulldogs led the game 13-9 before the first timeout of the match was called.
As both teams made their way back to the court the Bulldogs picked up right where they left off.
After a rigorous back and forth, Rockdale found itself up 16-10. But there to weather the storm yet again, were the resilient Wolverines.
Embarking on a sparatic five point run, the Wolverines closed the gap to within one, making the score 16-15. As the first set wore on, the Bulldogs found themselves holding onto a nice lead as they drew closer to the 25 point match mark with the score in their favor, 20-15.
Putting up yet another valiant effort, the wolverines closed the gap to within one, making the score 20-19.
Forcing Rockdale to take yet another timeout, the wolverines seemed poised to mount a triumphant comeback and pull off an upset in the first set.
Too bad the Bulldogs had other plans, as they hit the floor hard and closed out the set, 25-20.
The second set began much like the first, with Rockdale jumping out to a commanding, 3-0 lead, before improving its lead to 6-2.
Battling back like they've done throughout the majority of the game, the Wolverines went on yet another run, bringing the score to 6-5, still in favor of their opponent.
More back and forth ensued with both teams respectively scoring points in spurts, as the score soon read 12-8, in favor of the Bulldogs.
The Wolverines were able to deliver a monetary stun to the Bulldogs defense, as they took advantage of what was a minor lapse in the Bulldogs net protection, which resulted in the score being, 12-9.
In the blink of an eye, the Bulldogs were leading the match 22-9, and just as quickly it was over.
