A recent bid process on the project yielded the selection of Pittman Construction Company, a company based out of Atlanta, to conduct the road and sidewalk improvements to the northern corridor leading into Olde Town Conyers.
The Northside Drive/Milstead Avenue project is funded through special purpose local option sales tax funding and Pittman Construction Company's bid was approved at the cost of $728,498.
"This project will complement our latest road improvement and beautification projects on West Avenue and at the corner of Main Street and Pine Log Road," said Mayor Randy Mills. "This gateway into the city limits will take shape over the next several months and become a welcoming, inviting thoroughfare into Olde Town."
The scope of work for the Northside Drive/Milstead Avenue beautification and road improvement project includes a new sidewalk from Turner Street on Milstead Avenue north to the Georgia Federal Credit Union as well as the installation of a sidewalk on Northside Drive to North Hicks Circle. Milstead Avenue will be resurfaced from Main Street traveling north to Georgia Highway 20 and Northside Drive will be resurfaced in its entirety beginning at Milstead Avenue and will also include Shipp Circle. The intersection of Milstead Avenue and Northside Drive will also be realigned and include curb and gutter work.
Following these road and pedestrian improvements, landscaping will commence with the installation of a fountain and gateway signage.
Construction will take place during weekdays from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. (and possibly as late as 6 p.m.) and both Milstead Avenue and Northside Drive will remain open to traffic for the duration of the project. Some lane closures will take place from time to time. The expected completion date for the road improvement project is October 15.
