Rockdale Medical Center named Marvin Maner of the Information Technology department as the Employee of the Year for 2013.

Maner was described as "resourceful and eager to help others," "courteous and respectful to everyone," "gives 100 percent," "committed to Rockdale Medical Center," "cheerful," "leads by example," "strives to improve processes and reduce costs," and "gets it done the first time."

Maner attributed his success to having "a great team and a great boss."

Along with the distinction, he won $500, a plaque, pin and - the most coveted prize - a year-long prime parking space.

RMC also named surgical nursing assistant Debbie Cook as the winner of the Mercy Award, a prize given by LifePoint Hospitals which recognizes a person who has gone above and beyond in service to the community and patients. Cook, who has been at RMC since 2004, won a trip to Nashville in August and $100 donation to the disaster relief fund.

"They demonstrate a level of commitment that goes above and beyond every day... and they inspire others with compassion and a merciful spirit," said COO James Atkins. He described her initiative and tireless efforts for activities such as Relay for Life, baking biscuits for the RMC tent at Relay for Life and ensuring everyone was cared for.

Out of thousands of nominations, four RMC nurses were among the 350 nurses chosen for the AJC Celebrating Nurses award for excellence: Harriette Wiggins, Kathy Matson, Sharon Yarbrough, and Dorothy Reeves.

Adrienne Hugher, of medical telemetry, was recognized as Tech of the Year, Tracy Buffington was recognized as Nurse of the Year, and Maddie Sadler of medical telemetry was recognized as Clerk of the Year.
