Thirteen area churches came together for an ecumenical service on Tuesday before Thanksgiving at Epiphany Lutheran. The 13 churches are the founding members of Family Promise of NewRock, an interfaith hospitality network for homeless families, which kicked off earlier this month with three families but was two years in the making. Those churches are Allen Memorial United Methodist, Conyers First Baptist, Conyers First Presbyterian, Conyers First United Methodist, Epiphany Lutheran, Life Church, Milstead Baptist, New Life in Christ Baptist, Rockdale Alliance, Rockdale Baptist, Smyrna Presbyterian, St. Pius X Catholic, and Trinity Baptist. Taking its name from Ga. Highway 138, Family Promise organizer Tim Carey described the "Highway to Change" campaign of donating $138 per year to support one person through the Family Promise program.
