RCSO helps catch burglary suspects

IN BRIEF: Rockdale County Sheriff's Office deputies helped nab two burglary suspects who were fleeing from DeKalb Police after a traffic stop Friday afternoon.

The suspects were fleeing in a vehicle from DeKalb into Rockdale around 4:45 p.m. and eventually abandoned their vehicle in the area near Iris Drive, Sigman Road, Turner Road, Abbott Road and McDaniel Mill Road and began fleeing on foot. One suspect was caught almost immediately and arrested without further incident.

The other suspect escaped into the woods. A search perimeter was set up and DeKalb County K-9 units and helicopters aided the search. A CodeRed alert was reportedly sent to regstered users in the area alerting them to be on the lookout for the suspect, who was possibly armed with a handgun from one of the burglary locations. 

Around 8:45 p.m., a witness called 911 with a description of a person matching the suspect's description in the woods near McDaniel Mill  Road and Iris Drive. The second suspect was caught and arrested without further incident. The "all clear" signal was given by about 9 p.m.
