The Rockdale County Fire Department Honor Guard is seeking donations to help them attend the the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, October 2 through 4, at the National Fire Academy in Emmittsburg, Maryland.

The weekend, the fourth time the RCFD Honor Guard has participated, is a national tribute to honor firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice and remember those individuals who lost their lives in the line-of-duty.

The Guard first attended in 2006 to honor one of the County's own, firefighter Thomas Hurlbert, who died in the line-of-duty.

"We feel this is a proper and fitting tribute for one of our own firefighters to have ‘his' Honor Guard participates in the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend Ceremony," said Rockdale County Fire Chief Cedric C. Scott.

The travel expenses are not included in the County's budget so Honor Guard members rely on donations to sponsor their travel accommodations for this event.

During the next two months the Honor Guard hopes to collect monies to help sponsor their trip to honor Hurlbert and all other fallen firefighters at the Memorial Weekend event.

For further information on this event or to make a donation, contact the Rockdale County Fire Department at 770-278-8453.
