Rockdale County runners have until the end of the week to register for the Fifth Annual Race Against Violence 1-mile/5K fundraiser on Oct. 25.

So far, 70 runners have signed up to join the race. Early registration ends Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. and people should mail their application to Rockdale State Court, P.O. Box 289, Conyers.

The price to register early is $20. To register the day of the RAV is $25.

The Race Against Violence will be held in conjunction with the Olde Town Festival. The race will benefit the Rockdale County Task Force Against Family Violence and the local battered women's shelter, Project Renewal.

The events begin with the "Pre-Race Party" on Friday, Oct. 24, at 5:30 p.m. at Las Flores restaurant in Old Town Conyers. The race will held at the Conyers First United Methodist Church in Conyers on N. Main Street. The first event begins at 8 a.m. with a 1-mile Fun Run followed with the 5K (3.1 mile) run 8:15 a.m.

New this year for runners is that their finish time in the RAV could help improve their position in the July 4th Peachtree Road Race, attended by more than 60,000 runners, because the RAV is an official qualifier for the Peachtree race.
