Pilot Club celebrates 50 years

The Conyers Pilot Club celebrated 50 years of community service with a Celebration Tea Sunday afternoon, March 11, at the Rockdale Leadership Center on Ga. Highway 20.

The history of the club was revisited decade by decade by members Lillis Brown, Gwen Dean, Micki Smith, and Joe Neely.

The guest speaker was Nancy Miller, Governor of the Georgia District of Pilot International. Miller and current Conyers club president Barbara Nix presented a 50th anniversary pin to the two charter members still active in the club today: Lois Garner, who was the original treasurer, and Ellen Trainer, who was one of the original directors.

Pilot International focuses on brain related disorders, and financial support was presented to the following local organizations’ representatives: Rockdale Autism Support – Serena Graves, Rockdale Cares – Barbrara Kilpatrick, Rockdale County Special Olympics – Erika Sellars, Newton Rockdale Brain Injury Support –not present, Meals on Wheels – Melissa Bloodworth-Pugh, Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office Project Lifesaver – Lt. Mike Sellars, Light House Village – Cathy Vaughn, Servants of the Lord Meals on Wheels – Carrie Trueblood.
