The Heritage women's and Rockdale County men's cross-country teams earned first-place finishes Oct. 19 at the 16th Annual New/Rock Cross-Country Championship, but it was the Patriots that came away with their 15th overall title at the event.
The Lady Patriots, led by Alexia Wilson with a second place finish in a time of 23:08, earned the top spot at the championship held at Sims Elementary School.
Heritage paced the field with five top-10 finishers, as Ferree Buck joined her teammate in the top 5 at third overall in a time of 23:39. Sophie Moll (25:03), Emily Taylor (25:04) and Erin Carter (25:39) finished seventh, eighth and 10th, respectively.
Rockdale's Antwonette Thomas won the women's race, finishing in 21:54, more than a minute ahead of Wilson. Kyandi Lattimer finished fourth overall for Rockdale with a time of 25:53.
The Rockdale men's cross-country team earned a first-place finish for its efforts on the course. The Bulldogs were led by freshman Dax Willette, who won the race with a time of 17:37. The Bulldogs clinched four of the top five positions, including Logan Hill (second, 18:20), Jonathan Butler (third, 18:35) and Sulaimane Bangura (fifth, 18:54).
The HHS men's team placed second overall at the event, finishing with three runners in the top 10.
T.J. Wilson paced the Patriots with a seventh-place finish in 19:00, while Darryl Bow (19:11) and San Marteen Rozier (19:16) earned seventh- and eighth-place finishes, respectively.
