If you've ever wanted to learn a new skill or topic but didn't have the time, next Saturday morning might be the perfect opportunity. Rockdale County Public Schools is now accepting participant registrations and vendor applications for its upcoming Parent Academy on March 10, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
This second ever Parent Academy offers free seminars in a wide variety of practical topics geared for parents but open to the community at large. The first session in August saw overflow response.
Classes include: Estate Planning, Parenting of Teens, eBay 101, Test-Taking Strategies, and Positive Discipline, to name a few. Certain classes will be available in Spanish, as well. All adults in the Rockdale community are invited.
New to the March session will be classes targeted to tweens/teens and a track geared towards the specific needs of families of individuals with special needs and disabilities.
Childcare is provided free of charge for children ages 3-10; however, pre-registration is required for childcare.
Also new is the ability to register online. Adults may go to the district website, www.rockdale.k12.ga.us, and click on the “Parents” link. Parent Academy is located under the heading “Get Involved.” A separate registration is necessary for each participant. Paper registration forms are available in the Office of Support Services located at 1143 West Avenue or in the front office at the Rockdale Career Academy (RCA), 1064 Culpepper Drive.
The RCPS District-Wide Parent Academy will be held at Rockdale Career Academy with walk-in registration beginning at 8:30 a.m.
A brief welcome and opening session will be held in the auditorium at 9 a.m. Classes are scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. and will run throughout the day. The last session of classes will end promptly at 2 p.m. and participants will be invited to the auditorium for door prize giveaways.
Vendors who are interested in participating in the event should call 770-918-6174.
