The Conyers-Rockdale Economic Development Council announced Illinois-based paper manufacturer Corrugated Supplies Co., LLC will be opening up a multi-million dollar plant in Rockdale and bringing about 50 jobs to the county.

The corrugated sheet-feeder plant will be set up in a 444,000 square foot building at 1475 Ga. Highway 138, which was formerly Solo Cup's distribution warehouse space. Glenn Sears, CREDC's executive director, said the company had looked at a smaller space in Conyers about two years ago but decided against expansion at the time.

The company came back to look at Conyers, among other places, and chose to open here because of the location, community and business climate, said Sears. As part of its incentives, the company will recieve an abatement on county taxes for five years on the value of its machinery.

"This is very good news for the community," said Sears. "Manufacturing is outstanding for the tax base and good paying jobs."

In addition to the multi-million dollar investment this year, the company plans to bring finishing equipment and additional employees in 2012, said Sears.

The county has sufficient water capability for this plant's needs, which will be making corrugated paper products out of raw materials, said Sears.

Sears said many of the inquries that CREDC received over the past eight months have been from manufacturing companies. "It seems like it's not only expanding, it's coming back to America," he said.

The plant is Corrugated Supplies Company's fourth in the country and first in the state. The company employs about 200 and has plants in Bedford Park, Ill., Culman, Ala. and New Haven, In.
