Our thoughts: Veteran, No Shows

Veteran
Tommy Clack is a genuine hero; he served his country during the Vietnam conflict and seriously paid the price for his service.

He currently serves as the Director of Veterans Services for Rockdale and six surrounding counties.

On April 15, Clack came back to his distinctively marked van parked at the Conyers Wal-Mart and found a coward scratched through the image of the eagle and the message "Freedom Isn't Free" on his van.

It's bad enough that someone would do such a thing, but to do it to a person who fought and almost gave his life for the right to preserve our freedoms is absolutely a disgrace.

We would think that after this story ran last week that there would be a public outcry of disgust.

If you missed the story you can find it at www.rockdalenews.com.

We appreciate Tommy Clack and what he stands for; we condemn the coward who didn't have the courage to confront him personally.

We promise that if the person is found and charges are brought against him or her for vandalism, we will run their picture on the front page of this paper so that our readers can see what a true coward looks like.

If you have information in regards to the vandalism of the van of our war hero Tommy Clack, please call Clack at 770-388-5075.

No Shows
There is no question that the voters of Rockdale County want and deserve their own elected official to represent them.

They have been disappointed since the last redistricting when the county was gerrymandered into four House districts and two Senate districts.

That dissatisfaction spilled over last Tuesday at a forum held by the League of Woman voters here in Rockdale.

It just so happened the Chamber of Commerce also held their annual legislative breakfast on Thursday.

Because their feelings and egos were bruised on Tuesday, apparently out of fear of being questioned again about the redistricting process, some of the legislators did not show up. Senator Ronald "no show 2" Ramsey, and Representatives Pamela Stephens and Dee Dawkins-Haigler did not show up after committing to do so.

Representatives Pam Dickerson and Dar'Shun Kendrick did come; as far as we are concerned both of these ladies have done an outstanding job representing their constituents in Rockdale County.

Senator Rick Jeffares also attended.

The reason the folks in Rockdale want their own representative that they can hold accountable is because of the lack of representation of some of their current representatives like Stephens, Dawkins-Haigler, and Ramsey.

The legislative breakfast sponsored by the Chamber is a non political event that is meant to be an informative forum for the community.

The fact that these three did not show up showed a complete lack of respect for the Rockdale business community and the voters of the county.
