There is no question that we live and work in a great community that takes great pride in its children and school system.

Last Wednesday, city, county and school officials gathered together at the Rockdale Career Academy and signed a pact that supported the STARS (Support Team for All Rockdale Student) program, which is designed to provide safe schools and healthy students.

For those of us who grew up in the baby boomer generation, it is hard to fully comprehend the temptations and stresses that affect our children every day in this modern world.

We want our children in the community to succeed and prosper. They are our future employees, entrepreneurs, parents and leaders and their success means our success as well.

The help pledged by school officials and the citizens of the county and city are a sign that Rockdale County and Conyers recognizes no one group can do it alone. Without this help and coordination, we have no doubt that we would be seeing many of our children in dangerous positions.

We salute the efforts of community leaders to make this place and our schools safe for our children.
