Last week, we ran a real feel-good story about local businessman Scot Ward who, along with his father, owns Scot Ward Funeral Services.

Ward not only is active in the community, serving on the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce and Barksdale Boys and Girls Club boards, but is quite the humerous emcee as he gives of his time to help many other local nonprofit groups such as the Rockdale Foundation for Educational Excellence.

What makes Ward stand out among his business peers is his commitment to give back 10 percent of his earnings to support groups in our community. Since 2005, that amount has totaled about $1 million dollars.

A community receives its heart because of folks like Scot Ward. We are fortunate here in Rockdale County to have other people who also contribute both their time and money to our community.

That is why Conyers-Rockdale, although small in size. is big in heart.
