It appears that Rockdale County Chairman and CEO Richard Oden will announce his decision to run for re-election in 2016 later this week.

An e-mail obtained by The News says the Friends of Richard Oden will hold a meet-and-greet session Thursday, Mar. 19, for the chairman where “an announcement” will be made, presumably by the chairman.

At the bottom of the e-mail, it states that the e-mail was sent out and authorized by the “Committee to Re-Elect Richard Oden 4 Rockdale County Chairman 2016.”

Contact with Oden couldn’t be made at press time to confirm if the announcement was his intention to run for re-election.

Post 2 County Commissioner Doreen Williams says that she hasn't heard anything about an impending announcement from the Oden and isn't aware of his election plans. Judging by the e-mail, Post 1 County Commissioner Oz Nesbitt says it seems like he's going to announce his intention to run for re-election.

The meet-and-greet will take place at Abbott Conference Hall, 1955 Sigman Road, Conyers. It’s scheduled to last from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Oden was first elected to the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners as chairman in 2008. He won re-election as chairman in 2012.
