Mrs. Anna Johnson passed away January 8, 2015, at the age of 84, surrounded by her immediate family and after several months of illness.
She and her husband, the Rev. R. Dean Johnson, had celebrated 53 years of marriage last October.
Mrs. Johnson had two children by her first marraige, whom the Rev. Johnson adopted. Over the years, they adopted several others as well as foster children to create a family of 12 children, ranging in age from 25-70.
She had studied theology at Tulsa University and psychiatric social work at University of Georiga. She had given lectures at universities, churches and civic organizations; was a Sunday school teacher for teenagerse and upon retiring, operated a counseling service from their home specializing in marriage and couples counseling.
She had also taught high school English in Illinois and at several schools in Georgia. She volunteered to assist the Governor's Task Force on Domestic Violence by working with victims of child abuse in Rockdale County.
She was also a gifted writer, having written three novels and several short stories, winning an award at Northern Illinois University for her work, most of which is yet to be published. Her greatest gift was that she really cared about others.
Her funeral service will be held at St. Simon's Episcopal Church, 1522 Ga. Hwy 138, Conyers, on Jan. 14, at 3 p.m.
