Newton deputy arrested for DUI

A Newton County Sheriff’s Office deputy was arrested and charged with DUI Thursday evening.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, Deputy Kevin Gregory Watkins, 45, was pulled over when a GSP Trooper noticed his Honda Accord traveling 81 mph on Ga. Highway 142 around 10:30 p.m.

Following a field sobriety test, Watkins was arrested and transported to jail on charges of DUI and speeding.

A breath test showed a blood alcohol level of .119. The legal limit in Georgia is .08.

Watkins is currently on paid administrative leave, as part of standard operating procedure, pending the outcome of an internal investigation. He has been with the NCSO since 2001.
