Nedra Virginia Mitchell, 97, of 131 Wellbrook Ct., Conyers, died Saturday, January 21, 2012. She was born in Fayette County, GA to the late Ethan and Leila Tarpley Mitchell.

She received her bachelor’s degree from the University System of GA in 1942, and a master of education from Emory University in 1950.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Scot Ward’s Green Meadow Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the service.

Miss Mitchell began her professional career as a classroom teacher in Clayton County, GA. She also taught in West Palm Beach, FL before working as an educational consultant for the Junior Red Cross and the John C. Winston book company. Miss Mitchell became a state supervisor for the state of North Carolina in 1961 and remained in this position until her retirement. Professional responsibilities included work with the Southern Association of Schools and membership in Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary society for women educators. Miss Mitchell devoted her life to quality education and was well respected in her field.

Miss Mitchell is survived by her sister, Mrs. Eloise Burns and sisters-in-law Mrs. Libby Mitchell and Mrs. Joyce Mitchell. Throughout her life, she selflessly gave her wisdom, love, and support to her 13 nieces and nephews and their families.
