IN BRIEF: Interim Fire Chief Dan Morgan was approved today by the Board of Commissioners as the new official fire chief of the Rockdale County Fire and Rescue division. Morgan has been with the division for nearly 13 years. Morgan, of no relation to former fire chief Tommy Morgan, started his fire career as a volunteer firefighter in Newton County in the city of Oxford. Prior to his firefighting career, he was in management and research with a concrete company in Atlanta. Morgan said he was still figuring out what might be the next steps moving forward for Rockdale Fire and Rescue. "We have a good base. In the immediate, we’re still trying to finish the ISO study, which will be here at the end of this month. We’re still working hand in hand with the SPLOST committees with the radios and E911. There’s a lot of good things happening in the next 3-5 years in the fire department." He said the county is trying to figure out if they will have open spots for firefighters by the 2013 spring cycle.
