A Lithonia man shot himself in the foot while walking near the Mini Foods store by Irwin Bridge Road after smoking marijuana on the evening of Oct. 24.

According to reports, police responded to the call of person shot at Rockdale Medical Center around 9:28 p.m.

Richard Lucas, 18 of Lithonia, was at the hospital with a small hole on the top of his foot, closer to the inside, and a large bruise in the middle of his foot.

Lucas told police that he was "high from smoking some marijuana before he left for the store."

While en route to the Mini Foods, he saw a Conyers Police car at the housing authority on Irwin Bridge Road. Lucas then decided to walk down Tinsley Street and cut through the woods beside a church.

According to the report taken at the hospital, Lucas told the officer that he did not see or hear anyone around him as he was walking down the path. In the report he said he "was near a large rock on the path when he heard a loud pop noise and believed it was a firecracker." He then went on to say he "felt a sharp pain in his right foot, and heard some people running in the distance."

According to reports, Lucas then went to a house 1250 Harvel Street. When he took off his shoe, he noticed blood streaking across the top of his sock. His two friends inside then took him to the hospital.

In a later investigation, Lucas admitted to accidentally shooting himself in the foot. A warrant was obtained for false report of a crime against Lucas.

Another officer later went to the residence on Harvel Street and, according to reports, noticed a small .22 bullet lying on the floor in the living room.

After a search of the residence .22 rounds, a pistol, detached barrel, two marijuana plants in pots and a spent shell casing outside of the residence were taken by the officer.
