The Conyers Police Department continues to investigate the death of a man who was found shot Saturday evening.

On Nov. 21, a CPD officer reportedly responded to a call of shots fired at 986 Briar Creek Court.

Upon arrival, the officer swept the apartment and found a 31-year-old Hispanic man in the front left bedroom. The man had been shot in the head and his breath was reportedly rough and slow.

The medical responders were called to the scene and the man was readied for transport to Rockdale Medical Center by helicopter. Before the helicopter arrived, the man reportedly died.

Among the items found near the man were two alcohol containers and an envelope containing a birth certificate.

CPD Major Scott Freeman said in an e-mail the case is still under investigation.

"As we do in all of our cases, we conduct a thorough investigation and review all of the facts before making any final determinations," Freeman wrote. "It would be inappropriate at this point to rule anything out, and our detectives are working around the clock to make a final determination."
