Local piano students earn distinction

Alex Wilkinson, a recent high school graduate, earned the High School diploma in social Music from the national Guild of Piano Teachers in May 2009. This feat includes the memorization of a 10-piece program which includes the required musicianship phases, as well as approved repertoire. He demonstrated proficiency in all areas and graded highly.

Alex began piano lessons in kindergarten and has been a student of Martha Anne Young for 13 years. He received the Paderewski medal from the guild in 2007 for performing a 10-piece program for 10 years with superior every year. He received the 12-year Gold Cup from the National Federation of Music Clubs in 2008 for superior program for 12 years. This year he played his 13th federation program. He also has been a winner at Kiwanis talent shows.

Alex swims for the Deer Run Dolphins, and is a life guard at the Deer Run Pool and is active in other sports. He is the son of Stephanie and Lloyd Wilkinson of Conyers, and will attend Georgia State University in the fall.

Hannah Wilkinson of Conyers was awarded the Paderewski medal by the national Guild of Piano Teachers. She earned this award by presenting a 10-piece program every year for 10 years, scoring a superior rating each year.

Hannah has received a superior rating from the National Federation of Music Clubs for the last 10 years. She has been studying piano with Martha Anne Young since the age of 5.

Hannah's other interests include singing, dancing and acting. She has appeared on stages throughout the Atlanta area and spent a summer in New Hampshire after being selected to play the title role in "Annie" from a New York Audition.

She is the daughter of Stephanie and Loyd Wilkinson and has four older siblings.
