Ovarian cancer survivors and patients will soon have a local place to go for support and networking. Rockdale resident and ovarian cancer patient Sheri Rogers said she will be holding the first meeting of a new ovarian cancer support group on Dec. 20, 6 p.m. - 7 p.m., at Rockdale Medical Center Classroom 1 in the east tower.

"I've been wanting to do this for a while," said Rogers, who had worked at local Waffle Houses for the last 14 years and in other food industry jobs. "There is not enough support groups out there for ovarian cancer. There is for breast cancer. But ovarian cancer has been left behind," she said.

Rogers is going through her third bout of ovarian cancer since 2006 - this time with a rare form that's spread to her appendix, liver, and bladder. But the 42-year-old is optimistic and planning on going to school to become a medical assistant, as well as advocating to bring Emory's $200M new cancer center to Rockdale.

The next meeting after that is scheduled for Jan 26, 6-7:30 p.m. at RMC Classroom 1 at the East Tower. For more information, call (678) 395-5767.
