Johnson Park Recreation Center offers new classes

The Rockdale County Department of Recreation and Maintenance will be hosting a course for beginning to advanced shutter bugs to learn or improve his/her picture-taking skills. This course is a great way to learn better ways of taking pictures to make sure those summer memories are captured. The program will be held at the Johnson Park Recreation Center located at 1781 Ebenezer Road.

This class will cover the basic camera features and foundation photography instruction that amateur photographers can use to begin the hobby of photography. For the more avid photographer, the class will cover more advanced composition, lighting and subject handling techniques.

The class runs on Friday, May 29 and Friday, June 5, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. or Friday, June 19 and Friday, June 26, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Students must be age 13 and older. The fee is $15 for two one-hour classes for county residents and $22.50 for two one-hour classes for non-county residents.

Every student may bring his/her own camera to class, but it is not required. Registration will be accepted at the Johnson Park Recreation Center.

Biggest Loser Boot Camp
This program is for individuals wishing to lose weight, tone muscles or just add variety to a workout routine. The six-week camp is a high-intensity class that will focus on cardio and resistance training.
Dates: June 6 - July 11
Day/Time: Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Ages: 18 & Older
Fee: $25 per class (six classes)

Yoga
Yoga can help reduce stress, increase flexibility and strength, as well as help flex joints and increase range of motion and the circulation of blood, energy, and oxygen. Yoga is a great way to get fit while having fun.
Days/Time: Monday - Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Ages: 21 & Older
Fee: $15 per day (County residents) / $22.50 per day (non-County residents)
$50 per week (County residents) / $75 per week (non-County residents)
$150 per month (County residents) / $225 per month (non-County residents)
Requirements: Mat and stretchable or loose clothing

Healthy Choices for Girls
This program's goal is educating, enlightening and empowering girls to make healthy choices, as well as teaching girls life skills, personal power, resilience, conflict resolution, the juvenile justice system, and career exploration. This program begins June 3 and is ongoing.
Day/Time: Wednesdays, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Ages: 12 to 17
Fee: $25 per month/$145 per six months/$225 per year, plus $30 annual membership fee
