IN BRIEF: Deputies and police are on the hunt for a driver who fled a traffic stop and eventually crashed before abandoning the car this afternoon. The passenger of the car reportedly jumped out while the car was fleeing the traffic stop and tried to escape on foot before eventually being found and arrested.

Conyers police attempted to pull over the vehicle for a routine traffic stop shortly before 4:30 p.m. near Flat Shoals and Old Salem Road, according to CPD Lt. Jack Dunn. The vehicle reportedly slowed then sped up again, only to slow down slightly in order to allow the passenger to jump out. The passenger fled on foot and the vehicle continued into the county.

A search was conducted for the passenger. He was later spotted walking down Ga. Highway 20 South, near Publix, and arrested.

The vehicle was found in the Lambeth Estates subdivision, off Old Salem Road, between Flat Shoals and Ga. Highway 20 South. The suspect had crashed the car and abandoned it, fleeing on foot.

Police are investigating the fleeing incident and RCSO deputies are investigating the hit-and-run.
