RCHS students go to DC for Youth Leadership Mission

Jaron Johnson and Chelsie Jones, juniors at Rockdale County High School, have been selected as delegates for the Anti-Defamation League's tenth annual Grosfeld Family National Youth Leadership Mission to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., from Nov. 15 through Nov. 18. They are part of a group of ten ethnically, religiously and racially diverse high school students from throughout the Atlanta area who will participate in the Mission. Local funding for the mission is provided by Atlanta residents Lynne and Howard Halpern.
The students will convene in Washington to debate, question, and wrestle with the harmful issues of bigotry and intolerance in America. The centerpiece of the Mission will be their visit to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. "The cause of this mission is a very important part of life and I am very happy to be a part of such an important event," said Jaron Johnson.

Mentor orientation Sept. 23

The Rockdale County Public Schools is holding the annual community mentor training Wednesday, Sept. 23, 6 p.m. in the RCPS Board Room at 954 North Main Street, for interested citizens to become involved in the mentoring program for RPCS students for the 2009-2010 school year. Mentors may continue mentoring the same student the following year and this is encouraged, but not required. Mentoring is a wonderful way for community members to become involved in the activities of the school system and facilitates the district's vision of fostering community and educational partnerships to benefit youth. PROBE College Fair Sept. 24 at Stonecrest Mall

More than 100 colleges and universities will visit the Mall at Stonecrest on Thursday, Sept. 24 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. for the seventh annual PROBE College Fair. High school juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend this annual event for the opportunity to speak with representatives from various institutions.

Hospital Authority Board fills vacancy

The Hospital Authority of Rockdale County voted Sept. 17 to approve Elisa Frey to fill the vacancy left by Tony Wilson and to re-elect Norma Henley. Each board member serves staggered three year terms.
