The House District 113 race will be determined in the August 21 run-off election after incumbent Pamela Dickerson received 42 percent of the Democratic votes (1,959 votes) and Sharon Sawyer received 32.47 percent (1,512 votes).
Seeking election to second term, Dickerson said Wednesday "I am very thankful for the support the people have shown me. While no one wants to go through a runoff, I am very optimistic and I am going to continue the hard work I have done in District 113 and show the people I am the best qualified candidate."
Sawyer, who is a Newton County resident and city of Conyers employee, came in second behind Conyers resident Toney Collins, who garnered 25.45 percent of the votes with 1,185.
