A blaze destroyed the home and the posessions of a mother and two young children Monday night on Tucker Mill Road.
The fire was called in shortly before 6 p.m. at 2869 Tucker Mill Road and appeared to start on the porch of the house, according to Rockdale County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Sharon Webb.
A neighbor saw smoke coming from the house and by the time the mother was able to come outside to see the fire, it was rapidly spreading.
"It was out of control before she could do anything," Webb said. "Fire personnel arrived to find the front porch fully involved in flames, which spread rapidly into the attic and throughout the home."
The mother and her two children, who were all inside at the time, were able to escape the house uninjured, and no firefighters were injured during the incident. But the home and its contents were destroyed.
There was no homeowner's insurance, and the residents were renting the home.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and there was no outdoor cooking or heating occuring at the time, said Webb.
The family was able to stay with relatives. The Red Cross was not called for assistance.
