Heritage High School senior Bryan Ashmore can proudly claim the title of best high school jazz trumpeter in Georgia after he was named lead trumpet in the All-State Jazz Band, beating out 13 other finalists int he audition. The audition included scales, sight reading and improvisation. Ashmore, who's been playing trumpet for seven years, also won a refurbished Horton ST357 "Maynard Ferguson" trumpet, a value of over $2,000, for his accomplishment. HHS Band Director Scott Smith said one of the reasons the Marching Band designed a jazz themed routine this season was to feature Ashmore's playing. Ashmore, 17, hopes to attend University of South Carolina for their music program. The All Star Jazz Band will perform Jan. 28 in Savannah, to coincide with the Georgia Music Educator's Conference.
