Heritage High School's Arts Academy and musical theatre recently hosted the region 8AAAAA, one act competition on Oct. 16 for the 12th year in a row. Nine out of ten schools from the region including Winder-Barrow, Lanier, Gainesville, Cedar Shoals, Heritage, Flowery Branch, Loganville, Clarke Central, and Apalachee High School participated in this event.
One Act is an acting competition among all of the schools that perform in the same region. Each school has 55 minutes to put up the entire set for the performance, perform, and take down the set. Nothing is allowed to be on the stage before and after the performance or points are deducted.
Heritage used this competition as an opportunity to showcase their fall musical, "The Addams Family."
At this year's competition, Heritage placed fourth overall and was awarded with best costumes and best set for the day.
"Heritage put on a wonderful performance. We went first and we placed fourth, but there was a four point spread between the top four schools. This was the best performance we have done of the show and we are looking forward to our opening day for the play on Thursday, November 13," said Drama Department Director Michelle Thorne.
Parker Trau, a junior at Heritage, won best supporting actress for the entire competition, playing the role of Pugsley. Also, junior Keith Glidewell, playing the role of Uncle Fester, and senior Anthony Martin, playing the role of Gomez Addams, won All-Star cast for their "The Addams Family" play performance.
"The Addams Family," will be the first musical performed by Heritage High School's Arts Academy Drama Department. The show dates for the musical are November 13 - 15 and November 20 - 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays November 16 and 23 at 2:30 p.m.
