Heritage high school was evacuated early Friday afternoon after a fire alarm was triggered at the school. This turned out to be a false alarm, and classes resumed within a half hour.
School administration ordered a precautionary evacuation and the fire department was called as standard procedure, according to Cindy Ball, Rockdale County Public Schools spokesperson.
Rockdale County Fire Rescue determined that there was no smoke, fire or danger to the students. The alarm was triggered by four students who discharged fire extinguishers into the school's ventilation system; this set off smoke detectors there. The students responsible were identified via video surveillance and apprehended, according to RCFR spokesperson George Cox.
The four students face possible criminal charges.
